Some people tried to tell it was destroyed and got this information also into the Pourret book, for the simple reason that the car was stolen! The car was owned by: 21.06.61 Mrs Colombo Arnalda regd. VA 86592 14.05.62 Pier Luigi Zanardelli regd. BS 106960 08.11.62 Simon Meier (CH) regd.TN 46942 24.06.63 Cicogna Mozzoni Giuseppe Ascanio regd. MI 854290 27.12.63 Mrs Luigi Elisabetta regd. CO 133643 She left the car in a Milan hotel garage, and it was stolen from there after 1967 and possibly either crashed then or dismantled to make the complete car disappear. Many of the parts reappeared years later, and I had the chassis parts used by Vaccari to restore the chassis, which was over half new. The original 2687 engine was used in Italy in a Lusso with a SWB body using s/n 2687, which I bought to remove the engine and all interior and mechanical SWB parts for the rebuild of the real 2687. The Lusso still had its original number 5057 under the fake 2687 plate, and is now with a German owner in Aachen using standard 250 GTE parts. The SWB was never completely destroyed as I believe it was taken apart, but many parts of the stolen car never showed up (gearbox, rear axle, body, etc) So 2687 is not original, but it has the maximum of its original parts back together on a rebuilt chassis by the same man who built the original chassis. I started this rebuild already in 1987, taking many years to get the process completed.
