This championship for 2 litres sportscars began in 1970. Famous drives and cars were seen here but this championship was ended after five years of its existence.
European sportscar championship appeared again in 1978 replacing cancelled World Championship for group 6 spiders. Only one season it longed because next year group 6 cars were again admitted to the World Championship of Makes but without possibility earn points.
Third period of European championship is year 1983 when FISA did organise European Endurance Championship for group C prototypes. Many races were counted also to the World Endurance Championship. Next year FISA didn't continue with this championship although there had already been preliminary calendar for 1984 season.
